I am "That Person"

You know that person who buys something just because they stick a celebrity's name on it? Yeah, that's me. It used to be me for anything related to Justin Timberlake. Now, I have moved on to anything with Rachael Ray's name on it. For example, over the past month, I have bought the following products: (1) Rachael Ray notecards (these sit on a shelf because the last time I wrote and sent a note was wedding thank yous over a year ago); (2) Rachael Ray magnetic notepads (these fall into the sad but true category - they have her name on the package and that's it); and (3) the above-pictured Rachael Ray EVOO (aka extra virgin olive oil, which I have not tried yet). At least the EVOO is useful and I trust her, so I think it will actually be a good product. Supposedly it is "Gourmet Spanish Olive Oil from the Andalusia Region of Spain." We'll see about that. At least I am loyal . . . . A bit pathetic, but loyal.

The other thing is, the way I find this crap is the "people that bought this also bought this" junk that they do on websites. Now, I have to admit that I have found many good books that way on Amazon or bn.com (check out George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones, which I found when I bought a Robert Jordan Wheel of Time book). But the "people also bought this" function on websites is the same thing as putting the candy and magazines by the checkout counter. And I fall for it every time! It's so sad.

  1. Confession time: I bought the Rachael olive oil too. It was great olive oil, but at $20 a bottle I've been able to restrain myself from purchasing more.

  2. You and me both, Erin. I bought one bottle, but it's so much easier (and cheaper) to buy it in the store.
