Rachael's Charitable Activities

Rachael Ray has been involved in many charity events lately, some of which are ongoing. I think the most exciting one is this one: you can bid to be a sous chef for a day on Rachael's new talk show. Seriously. The auction is being run by Charity Folks, which also featured Rachael Ray in a previous auction. The current auction benefits Keep a Child Alive and ends today! The current bid is (drumroll, please) $2,850.

Here's how they describe the prize:
Bid for a chance to become Sous Chef for a day on Rachael Ray's television talk show which premieres September 18, 2006. Airfare to NYC and accommodations in the Big Apple are included for winning bidder and guest! See yourself on TV if the episode is aired. Work on-set in the show's kitchen while preparing the food that will be used during Rachael's cooking demonstrations. You and guest will have seats in the audience. Not only will the winning bidder and their guest experience backstage with Rachael during a Meet & Greet, but they will also receive a collection of Rachael's cookbooks, a set of her knives made by FURI, and pieces of her Analon cookware line. What wonderful additions to anyone's kitchen!

Does anyone have $3,000 bucks I can borrow? Tee hee.

In other charity news, Rachael participated in Aspen's Best in Show project, which features painted fiberglass Labrador dogs that are displayed all over the town of Aspen, Colorado. An auction of the dogs on Aug. 1 benefited the Aspen Filmfest. The dog pictured at right was painted by Rachael Ray. Other stars involved included Mariah Carey, Anjelica Huston, Goldie Hawn, Salma Hayek, Mario Batali, Morgan Freeman, Snoop Dogg, Jack Nicholson, and Debra Messing.

And finally, Rachael created a special set of Furi knives for charity. According to the Food Network Store: "The Rachael Ray SOS Kitchen Trio Set features 3 Furi Gusto-Grip Knives and comes packaged in a specially designed box. A portion of sales will benefit Share Our Strength, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger." The set includes a 3.5" Paring Knife, a 6" Serrated Utility Knife, a 5" East/West Knife, and an orange Translucent Knife Case. They cost 99 bucks, but you certainly get some bang for your buck with all that's included and you will help out a good cause!

  1. I'm going to be on her show--but I don't think I'm going to meet her. Boohoo!

  2. Jeny - I am so excited for you that you will be on the show! That's a bummer that you won't meet her though. Sigh.
