New Melamine/Acrylic Products from Rachael Ray

Monday, March 05, 2007

Okay Garbage Bowl fans, happy times are coming. According to HFN, Rachael Ray has teamed up with to tabletop and giftware manufacturer Precidio Inc. to create a line of melamine and acrylic tableware. The line will creatively be called the Rachael Ray Collection and it will be launched at the International Home & Housewares Show on March 12.

The idea of the garbage bowl is that if you stick a big bowl next to you on the counter and throw all the trash in it, then you will save time by avoiding trips to the trash. Precidio says that "[a]ll of the products created for the collection were inspired by Ray’s time-saving philosophy and no-nonsense practicality."

They will even have a special product called a "Garbage Bowl, or GB, a countertop receptacle for food prep debris, developed by Ray as a result of her ongoing quest to reduce time and streamline effort in meal preparation." Other items in the line are called the Hipster and Paisley, which are "colorful melamine serveware add a unique twist to dining and entertaining."

I personally don't use a garbage bowl because of the way my kitchen is set up. Instead, I just pull the garbage can out from underneath the sink, which is right next to where I chop. So, I just throw stuff directly into the garbage as I go. But, I do think the garbage bowl is a kick ass idea and now you can get an official Rachael Ray garbage bowl.

Heck, I might have to get one even though I don't need it!

As much as I love her GB idea, I bet it's going to be real costly. I can use an old plastic bowl if I really needed a GB...but I doubt I would ever buy one.

I dunno, Jennifer. I have issues passing up Rachael Ray products. I even bought these silly notepads.

Great news! I hope they come in pink. Every now and then I search on ebay for cute malamine but they're really few and far between. Most of the real products are hideous. I think Rachael's set dressers scoop up all of the fun & funky versions.

You're probably right, Erin. I certainly never see any that are as cute as the ones RR uses on her show.

Won't buy these new ones --- I prefer the vintage ones - the originals!

Ladygrande - I can't afford the real ones!

Thanks so much for this info! I have been hunting the last couple years trying to figure out what her garbage bowls were and where I could get one. I just love their look. After reading your blog and realizing they were Melamine, just a quick Ebay search and found tons of vintage ones selling from $10 on up. If anyone is interested, go to Ebay and do a search for "Melamine", "Melmac", or "Texas Ware" bowls. If you are already an Ebay member, do a completed search for the Texas Ware ones. It's amazing how much some of them go for! It was such fun to see all the different colors they were made in - the pink and turquoise ones just scream 1950's and 60's (I guess I lead a boring life...) Anyway, for what it's worth, you made my day!

Pam - my pleasure! Glad I could help!

I had a garbage bowl, which got broken and now I'm looking to replace it with another one. It's well made, just the right size to be practical & it actually looks good on the counter. I now have granite looking solid surface countertops, so I'm hopefully going to find the grey granite bowl. There is no substitute.

My garbage bowl is the one I buy from the dollar store for a dollar.

I love my bowl, however it is so nice it gets used for so many other things, i.e salad and popcorn. Cracked when dropped on the floor... I had a difficult time finding another but I see they are back... thanks.
