  2. Well I just saw Rachel Ray in Nashville yesterday for the book signing of her new cookbook. It was wonderful!!!!

I just have to tell you the whole story. A friend of mine (Laura) sent me an email telling about Rachel Ray going to be at Williams & Sonoma signing cookbooks and would I like to go with her to get a book signed. I live in Kentucky and had not heard about the event and having my friend give me the scoop and asking me to go with her was like winning the lottery. I had to open and close the email ten times and reread it. Could this be true Rachel Ray in person? My heart was racing every time I reread the email.

Now I had to get a day off from work. I had just started a new job in September. I had never asked for a day off yet. After explaining that this little old country mouse had a chance to make her way to the big city to see a star and I got the day off.

Finally it was the night before the big trip to Nashville. I was so excited. I could hardly sleep. When I did get to sleep it was I had nightmares that I ended up at the wrong mall. Before long it was time to get ready for the road trip. It is a 3 hour drive to Nashville from my house. Plus I was meeting my friend (Laura) on the way to Nashville. I got up at 5:30 am and was out the door at 6:30 am. Met up with Laura at 7:00 am in Paris Tennessee and we got to the Cool Springs Mall about 9:15 am. We were about 10 people back in line. It was the best group of people. Everyone was so nice. We all saved each other’s spot in line if anyone needed a break. Everyone was just so happy to see Rachel that I thought we might all bust out into Christmas carols.

Of course I did a quick bit of shopping. I had a birthday coupon from Victoria’s Secret that I wanted to use and I bought a few new kitchen gadgets from Williams & Sonoma. About 3 ½ hours later the moment came were the eagle had landed and Rachel was about to start signing books. My friend Laura had gone to the restroom and I trying to grab up all our bags and carry them into Williams & Sonoma. I was so scared she was going to miss seeing Rachel plus I had all these bags to try and carry and hold cookbooks. My first thought was oh no I going to drop these bags and a pair panties will fall out in front of Rachel. Not the impression I was hoping to make. But then finally Laura came running up and got her bags and cookbooks. Whew… That was close. I really like Rachel but I wasn’t trying to show her my drawers. That would have been embarrassing.

We had a gift for Rachel. Laura presented Rachel with a gift, a cookbook from our Murray Woman’s club and baseball shirt from Murray State University. I am so happy Laura gave it to Rachel because when it was my turn to stand in front of Rachel I couldn’t talk. I am usually a little social butterfly and at that moment I could hardly squeak out a word. My heart was beating everything was happening so fast. You think be witty tell a joke say something! I saw her signing my cookbook and I finally got out “Thank You”. It was just a few seconds in front of Rachel but I felt like that little boy in the movie A Christmas Story, when he sees Santa in the big department store. Where he has been practicing what to say the whole time in line but when he finally sits in Santa’s lap he can’t talk and he tells Santa he wants a football instead of the Red Rider BB gun.

This little chatter box from Kentucky had never felt that way. Now 24 hours later I am still trying to find the right words.
